What Is Website Maintenance?

Website maintenance is the routine work that keeps a website secure, fast, and functioning: software updates, daily backups, uptime and security monitoring, performance tuning, and content changes. Done on a monthly rhythm, it prevents the outages, security incidents, and slow decay that cost a business leads and revenue.

TK WebHosts website maintenance services start from $99 per month and include 24/7 uptime and security monitoring. Most non-urgent requests are handled the same business day, and emergencies like a site outage or security issue get a response within an hour during business hours, longer outside them. Website maintenance services: updates and upgrades, backups and recovery, security and uptime monitoring, content updates and emergency fixes

Website Maintenance and Web Hosting Maintenance Services

The website maintenance service works wherever the site is hosted. For businesses that also want the hosting looked after, TK WebHosts Ltd adds managed hosting to the maintenance plan, so one team, one queue, and one invoice stand behind the server as well as the site — no ticket bounced between a host who says it is the site and a developer who says it is the server.

Hosting Maintenance Service: Uptime and Updates in One Queue

A hosting maintenance service covers the server and the site together: the platform that serves your pages, and the software running on it. When a plugin update and a server setting disagree, the same engineers fix both instead of passing you between two suppliers.

What Web Hosting Maintenance Services Cover

Website hosting maintenance covers both halves. Managed hosting with SSD storage, SSL and platform backups, plus the maintenance plan on top: core, theme and plugin updates tested on staging, daily off-site backups, 24/7 uptime and security monitoring, performance tuning, and your monthly content changes.

Website Hosting and Maintenance on One Invoice

When hosting is added, hosting and maintenance are quoted together in writing before anything starts, and billed monthly by one company that carries the liability for both. No split accountability when something breaks at 2am.

Already hosted elsewhere? The maintenance plan works on your current host, and a move to our platform is planned as part of onboarding rather than rushed. See managed web hosting plans and maintenance pricing.

Types of Website Maintenance

What a maintenance plan actually does depends on what the site runs on. These are the platforms and layers we maintain, and what the work looks like on each.

WordPress Website Maintenance

WordPress website maintenance is the busiest of these: core, theme and plugin updates applied on a staging copy first, with PHP version management, database upkeep, and rollback to the daily backup if an update misbehaves. The platform where the most can break, and the most can be prevented.

WordPress services →

Shopify & eCommerce Website Maintenance

eCommerce website maintenance carries a cost the others do not: an hour of downtime in trading hours is lost revenue. Shopify runs the platform and the payment compliance, but the theme, the apps and the catalogue are yours, so Shopify website maintenance means theme and app updates tested before they reach the live store, checkout and integration checks, product and content changes, and page speed watched through your busiest trading periods.

Wix Website Maintenance

Wix website maintenance works differently from WordPress: Wix keeps the platform code on its own servers and patches it for you, so there are no core or plugin updates to apply. The work is content changes, SEO and page performance, app and settings review, form and integration checks, and uptime monitoring.

Squarespace Website Maintenance

Squarespace website maintenance sits under the same boundary as Wix, because Squarespace is also a hosted platform: no code-level updates to run. The work is content and commerce configuration, SEO, domain and DNS, email deliverability from the domain, and watching that the site stays fast and reachable.

AI Website Maintenance

AI website maintenance is ordinary code maintenance under a newer name. Sites from Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit and 10Web ship real React, Next.js or WordPress code, and that code ages: dependency updates, security advisories, build and deploy failures, and backups — handled like any other codebase.

AI website maintenance →

Custom Website Maintenance

Custom website maintenance covers bespoke applications built by a development team — React, Next.js, Laravel, Node or similar. The common story is that whoever built it has moved on and nobody owns the stack any more. Custom maintenance takes on dependency and framework upgrades, security advisories, build pipelines, environment configuration, and the documentation that was never written.

Static Website Maintenance

Static website maintenance has no database and no CMS behind it — hand-written HTML or a static site generator — so the failure modes are different rather than absent. Static sites still need certificate and domain renewals, broken links and dead embeds chased, form endpoints that quietly stop delivering, build and deploy pipelines, CDN and DNS, plus the content edits you would otherwise need a developer for.

VPS & Web Server Maintenance

Web server maintenance is the layer beneath the website: operating system and service patching, security hardening, firewall and SSH policy, certificate renewal, log and disk monitoring, and resource headroom checked before it becomes an outage. VPS maintenance is the same work on a server where you hold root — nobody else is patching it for you, so it is yours to run, or ours, with someone to call when the monitoring alerts.

VPS hosting →

Website Hosting Maintenance

Website hosting maintenance adds the server to the maintenance plan, so one team answers for the server and for the software running on it. No ticket bounced between a host who says it is the site and a developer who says it is the server.

Why Website Maintenance Matters

An unmaintained website becomes a quiet business risk. Plugins drift out of date, performance degrades, security gaps widen, and content stops reflecting the quality of the business behind it. We keep the site reliable in the background so it can keep doing its job.

Less risk

Updates are tested and applied properly so routine maintenance does not become an avoidable outage.

Better performance

Speed, uptime, and day-to-day site health stay under control instead of slipping until someone notices.

Less owner stress

You have one technical partner handling fixes, backups, content changes, and urgent issues when they happen.

What Does Website Maintenance Include?

End-to-end care so your website is never the thing keeping you up at night.

WordPress Core, Theme & Plugin Updates

WordPress core, themes, plugins, and dependencies updated safely each month and tested before going live.

Daily Website Backup Service

Automated full-site backups stored off-server so restores happen quickly if anything goes wrong.

Website Security Monitoring

Continuous malware scanning, firewall management, and rapid response to security alerts.

Uptime Monitoring

24/7 uptime checks so if the site goes down, we know before you do and can start fixing it.

Website Speed & Performance Tuning

Ongoing speed optimization, image compression, caching, and Core Web Vitals improvements.

Content Updates

Need a copy change, image swap, or new page? Send it over and we handle it, usually the same day.

Monthly Reporting

Clear reporting covering uptime, performance, security, and what changed on your site.

AI Website Maintenance

Built with Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit or another AI builder? Those tools output real React, Next.js or static code, and we maintain it like any other custom site — dependencies, builds, and security patches included. More on AI website maintenance.

Emergency Website Fixes

When something breaks, maintenance clients get priority technical response instead of a new vendor scramble.

Your Website Maintenance Month, Step by Step

Maintenance is a cycle, not a call-out. Every month runs the same five passes over your site, in the same order, so nothing depends on somebody remembering.

Pass 01

Website Updates & Upgrades - Tested Before They Reach Your Site

Website updates are the routine releases: WordPress core, themes, plugins, and dependencies, applied each month on a staging copy first and pushed to live during low-traffic windows. If anything breaks, the site rolls back to the daily backup immediately, so an update becomes a routine event rather than a gamble on a Tuesday afternoon.

Website upgrades are the bigger steps that monthly updates never take on their own: a PHP version upgrade before the host ends support for the old one, a major WordPress or WooCommerce release, or a new React or Next.js version on a custom or AI-built site. Each upgrade is tested against the site’s theme, plugins, and third-party integrations before it goes live, because compatibility conflicts show up in the combination rather than in any one component. Where an upgrade would mean rebuilding templates, that work is scoped and quoted before it starts.

Hosted builders such as Wix and Squarespace patch their own platforms, so there the work is app, integration, and settings review rather than code-level upgrades.

In this pass

  • Core, theme, plugin, and dependency updates
  • PHP, CMS, and framework version upgrades
  • Compatibility checked against third-party integrations
  • Staging copy tested before anything goes live
  • Immediate rollback to the daily backup if needed
  • A record of what changed, kept for the monthly report

Pass 02

Website Backups and Recovery - Restores Handled for You

Automated full-site backups run daily, files and database together, and are stored off-server, so a restore never depends on the same machine that just failed. Every update and upgrade in Pass 01 uses the latest backup as its rollback point.

Website error recovery covers the ordinary failures: a faulty plugin, an incompatible script, an out-of-date integration, or a change somebody made on Friday and cannot undo on Monday. The site goes back to the last good backup first, and the fault is then fixed on staging rather than on the live site.

Hacked website recovery is a separate service, quoted when it is needed rather than included in the monthly plan. It follows the same order: the site is restored from the last clean backup, the plugin or theme the attacker came in through is updated or removed, and the site is scanned again before it is treated as clean. On an e-commerce site, checkout is tested before trading resumes. A hacked site is still treated as an emergency, with a response within an hour during business hours.

In this pass

  • Automated full-site backups, every day
  • Files and database, stored off-server
  • The rollback point for every update and upgrade
  • Error recovery from the last good backup
  • Hacked website recovery, quoted as a separate service
  • Restores handled for you, not left to you

Pass 03

Monitoring that runs between the update windows

24/7 uptime checks mean that if the site goes down, we know before you do and can start fixing it. Security monitoring runs continuously alongside it: malware scanning, firewall management, and rapid response to security alerts.

Most maintenance failures are not dramatic. They are a slow drift nobody is watching. Monitoring is what turns that drift into a ticket instead of a customer complaint.

In this pass

  • 24/7 uptime checks
  • Continuous malware scanning
  • Firewall management
  • Rapid response to security alerts
  • Incidents logged and written up at month end

Pass 04

Website Performance Tuning - Keeping the Site Fast as It Grows

Ongoing speed optimization, image compression, caching, and Core Web Vitals improvements stop the site quietly getting slower every time something is added to it.

Performance movement is part of the monthly report, so a slower page shows up as a number rather than a feeling.

In this pass

  • Speed optimization and caching
  • Image compression on new and existing assets
  • Core Web Vitals improvements
  • Performance movement in the monthly report

Pass 05

Content Management Support & Updates - Changes Sent In, Handled for You

Content management support keeps the site in step with the business without anyone on your side having to learn the CMS. Need a copy change, image swap, or new page? Send it over and it is handled, usually the same day, within the monthly content allowance on Growth plans and above.

On e-commerce sites that includes product changes: new products, galleries, descriptions, and prices. Images are compressed as they go up, so new content does not undo the performance work in Pass 04. Content updates also cover the details that quietly go stale: old prices, opening hours, contact details, and broken links.

Copywriting for new content, CMS login and user-access fixes, and training for the people who edit the site are available as separate services. Larger work, such as new page templates, redesigns, or content beyond the allowance, is quoted in writing before it starts.

In this pass

  • Copy changes, image swaps, and page edits
  • Product listings, galleries, and descriptions
  • Images compressed as they are uploaded
  • Outdated prices, hours, and broken links corrected
  • Content allowance on Growth plans and above
  • Copywriting, access fixes, and CMS training as separate services
  • Larger work quoted before it starts

Website Support Response Times

What actually happens when you send something in, and how quickly — in plain terms rather than a percentage nobody can check.

SituationWhat we doTypical response
Site outage or security issue Treated as an emergency. We start work straight away and tell you what we find rather than going quiet. Within an hour during business hours, longer outside them
Something monitoring catches first 24/7 uptime checks mean the ticket usually starts on our side, not yours. We know before you do and start fixing it
Content edit — copy, image, small page change Send it over and we handle it inside the monthly allowance. Usually the same day
General maintenance request Handled in the normal queue by people who already know your stack. Same business day for most non-urgent requests
New scope, or a question about price A written recommendation and a fixed price before anything is booked in. Written quote within 24 hours

Reporting

Your Monthly Maintenance Report

Clear reporting covering uptime, performance, security, and what changed on your site — sent every month, whether or not the month was eventful.

The reason to insist on this is simple. If you replace us tomorrow, your next provider inherits notes instead of archaeology. It is also the thing clients mention most often in reviews: not the fixing, the writing it down.

Read client reviews

In every monthly report

  • Uptime for the period, and any incident that interrupted it
  • Core, theme, and plugin updates applied — and anything deferred after testing
  • Backup status, so you know a restore point exists
  • Security: scans run, alerts raised, action taken
  • Performance movement, including Core Web Vitals
  • Content changes we made on request during the month
  • What we recommend doing next, and why

Growth plans add a quarterly site review on top of the monthly report.

What Website Maintenance Does Not Cover

A maintenance plan that quietly absorbs project work is a plan that stops being predictable. Here is the line, stated up front rather than discovered on an invoice.

Outside the monthly plan

  • New pages, redesigns, and new features — quoted separately at consultation
  • Content edits beyond the monthly allowance — quoted, not silently absorbed
  • Migrations between hosts or platforms — a scoped project, with maintenance resuming afterwards
  • Custom development, integrations, and automation builds — scoped as their own engagement
  • Hacked website recovery — a separate service, quoted when it is needed
  • Copywriting, CMS login and access fixes, and training — available as separate services
  • Upgrades that need templates rebuilt — scoped and quoted before work starts
  • SEO campaigns — a separate service with its own methods and reporting
  • Email deliverability repair and email programs — separate services, same team
  • Third-party costs — hosting upgrades, premium plugins, premium email platforms, and domains
  • Hourly ad-hoc call-outs — maintenance is a monthly cycle, not a stopwatch

None of this is a refusal — it is a different line on the quote. Third-party costs are passed through at cost and listed transparently in every quote, and larger work gets a fixed price in writing before it starts. No hourly-billing surprises, no scope creep.

Who Needs a Website Care Plan?

Maintenance earns its money on sites doing real commercial work. It is not the right first purchase for every business, and we would rather say so at the consultation than six weeks in.

A good fit if

  • Your website is a genuine source of inquiries, not a brochure nobody opens
  • You run WordPress, Shopify, a custom static site, or most CMS platforms
  • You currently find out about problems because a customer told you
  • There is no in-house developer, or there is one with better work to do
  • A day of downtime costs you money the same day
  • You run several sites and want one accountable team across all of them

Probably not yet if

  • The site needs rebuilding rather than protecting — start with design, then maintain something worth maintaining
  • You want hourly call-outs on demand rather than a monthly cycle
  • The immediate job is a migration or a new build — that is a scoped project first
  • What you actually need is rankings or inbox placement — those are separate services with their own methods
  • You are unsure the platform is supportable — ask at the consultation and we will tell you up front whether we are the right fit

Website Maintenance FAQs

The questions that come up before a maintenance plan starts, answered the way we answer them on the call.

What platforms do you maintain?

WordPress, Shopify, custom static sites, and most CMS platforms — including sites generated by AI builders such as Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit or 10Web, which output standard WordPress, React or Next.js code we maintain like any other. Hosted builders such as Wix and Squarespace keep the code on their own platform, so there we handle content, SEO, deliverability and monitoring rather than code-level updates. If you’re not sure, ask at the consultation and we’ll tell you up front whether we’re the right fit.

Do you maintain sites you didn’t build?

Yes. We take on WordPress, Shopify, custom static sites, and most CMS platforms regardless of who built them. If the build has problems we cannot reasonably maintain around, we say so at the consultation rather than after the first invoice.

Do I need to switch hosting?

Not necessarily, though most clients end up on one platform. We can maintain your site wherever it’s currently hosted, and if you want hosting and maintenance from one team we plan the migration as part of onboarding and keep downtime to a minimum.

Do you offer web hosting and maintenance services together?

Yes. TK WebHosts Ltd provides managed hosting and a monthly website maintenance plan as one engagement: the hosting keeps the site online, the maintenance plan keeps the software current, monitored and backed up. Both are quoted in writing before work starts and billed by the same company.

What is a hosting maintenance service?

A hosting maintenance service combines the platform a website runs on with the ongoing work that keeps it healthy: software updates, daily off-site backups, uptime and security monitoring, performance tuning and content changes. Bought separately that is two suppliers; bought together it is one team answering for both the server and the site.

Can I get website hosting and maintenance in the UK?

Yes. TK WebHosts Ltd is a UK company, and website hosting and maintenance are available to UK businesses with UK pricing and UK phone support. The United Kingdom storefront carries the local plans and contact details.

What if my site breaks because of an update?

We test updates on a staging copy first, then push to live during low-traffic windows. If anything breaks, we roll back to the daily backup immediately.

Can you recover a hacked website?

Yes, as a separate service rather than part of the monthly maintenance plan, quoted when it is needed. A hacked website is restored from the last clean backup, the plugin or theme the attacker came in through is updated or removed, and the site is scanned again before it is treated as clean. It is treated as an emergency: a response within an hour during business hours, longer outside them.

Are content changes included?

Standard plans include a generous monthly allowance for content edits. Larger projects like new pages or design changes are quoted separately at consultation.

What isn’t included in the monthly fee?

Project work is quoted separately at consultation: new pages, redesigns, new features, migrations between hosts or platforms, and custom development. Third-party costs are passed through at cost — hosting upgrades, premium plugins, premium email platforms, and domains. We list these transparently in every quote.

What do I actually get in the monthly report?

Uptime for the period and any incident that interrupted it, the updates applied and anything deferred after testing, backup status, security scans and alerts with the action taken, performance movement including Core Web Vitals, and any content changes we made on request. It closes with what we recommend next and why. Growth plans add a quarterly site review on top.

How fast do you respond to support requests?

Most non-urgent requests are handled the same business day. Emergencies like a site outage or security issue get a response within an hour during business hours, longer outside them.

Who do we contact when something breaks?

Us, directly. Maintenance clients get priority technical response instead of a new vendor scramble, because the queue already knows the site. Use the inquiry form or call +1 551 525 5551 (US) or +44 20 3877 7555 (UK).

Is there a minimum contract?

No long-term commitment required. We routinely start clients on a single project or a single plan and grow from there.

Can you also fix our email or SEO while you’re in there?

Those are separate services, run by the same team. If maintenance surfaces a DNS, deliverability, or search problem, we tell you what we found and what it would take to fix, then you decide whether to scope it. Nothing gets added to your bill without a written quote first.

Will you tell us if the site needs rebuilding rather than maintaining?

Yes. The test we apply is whether the work generates revenue for you. If the answer isn’t clearly yes, we don’t recommend it — including when the honest answer is that a maintenance plan would be protecting a site that should be replaced.

How we handle access

We work from a named, least-privilege account you create for us, require multi-factor authentication on anything we touch, capture the prior state before every change, and hand you a written revocation checklist when the work is done. One company — TK WebHosts Ltd — provides the service, invoices you and carries the liability.
