Why register with TK WebHosts?

A domain you control, with technical help when it matters.

Registration should make ownership, renewal and DNS simpler. We explain the rules and costs before checkout, then help connect the domain to the services that depend on it.

Registered in your name

You remain the registrant and retain control of transfers, nameservers and account access.

Privacy choices explained

Where an extension supports RDAP or WHOIS privacy, we explain what is protected and any additional cost.

Practical technical support

Get help with transfers, DNS, website connections, mailbox records and verification changes.

One management route

Keep renewals, DNS settings, invoices and support requests visible through the client portal.

How to choose a domain name

Make the name easy to remember, explain and type.

A good domain survives word-of-mouth, looks credible in search results and still makes sense when the business grows.

01

Start with the brand

Use the business, product or trading name people already recognize wherever possible.

02

Shorter is easier

Fewer words and characters make a domain easier to read, remember and share aloud.

03

Avoid confusion

Remove unnecessary hyphens, numbers, slang and spellings that need repeated explanation.

04

Match the market you serve

A country-code extension can signal the market you serve and strengthen local relevance.

05

Check names and rights

Search availability, similar businesses, social handles and potential trademark conflicts.

06

Act when it is right

Registration is first-come, first-served. Secure the suitable name before publishing the brand.

Domain name basics

Four ideas that make domain decisions easier.

A domain, hosting account and subdomain are related, but they do different jobs.

The domain name itself

It is the memorable address people type to reach a website, replacing the numerical IP address used by the underlying network.

Domain name vs web hosting

The domain is the address. Hosting stores and serves the website. They can be bought separately and connected through DNS.

Subdomains, explained

A subdomain such as shop.example.com creates a separate address under the main domain for a store, app, portal or other section.

How does a domain transfer work?

The registrar changes while the domain remains yours. The transfer code, lock, approval and DNS must be checked before the move starts.

What extensions cost

Check registration, renewal and transfer before buying.

Introductory and renewal costs can differ, and some country-code or specialist extensions have eligibility rules. We confirm the current registry price and requirements before payment.

Domain services

Registration is only the beginning.

Buying a name takes a few minutes. Keeping it pointed at the right website, the right mailboxes and the right third-party tools is the part that goes wrong, usually months later and usually for someone who did not make the original change.

Search and registration

Choose an extension and name that fit the brand, audience and practical use.

  • Availability checked across the extensions worth considering
  • Registration placed for you, with you as the registrant
  • First-year and renewal cost stated before you commit

Transfers and consolidation

Move domains between registrars with ownership, renewal and downtime risks accounted for.

  • Registrar locks and authorization codes handled for you
  • Renewal timing checked before the move is started
  • Domains scattered across old accounts brought together

DNS and email records

Connect websites, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and sending platforms correctly.

  • Website, mailbox and authentication records set together
  • Verification records for the tools that send as you
  • Changes checked against what the domain already does

Nameservers and hosting connections

Point the domain at the website, store or platform it is meant to serve, and repoint it later without the change turning into a support queue.

  • Nameserver changes planned around live traffic
  • Staging and production kept clearly separate
  • Web and mail records treated as two different jobs

Renewals and ownership records

Keep the paperwork somewhere you can actually see it: locks, authorization codes, nameservers and renewal dates.

  • Renewal dates tracked and confirmed with you
  • Registrant and administrative contacts kept current
  • A client area for invoices, services and support requests

Extra domains and redirects

Businesses collect names: common misspellings, an old trading name, a campaign, a regional extension bought in a hurry. They still need to be renewed and still need to point somewhere sensible.

  • Redirects set so old names reach the current site
  • Extensions consolidated under one account
  • One renewal picture instead of six forgotten inboxes

DNS management

DNS you do not have to be afraid of.

Records planned, changed and verified for you, with a management area of your own so nothing sits locked behind an agency login.

Most domains do more than one job. One set of records sends visitors to the website. Another routes mail to your mailboxes. Another tells receiving servers which platforms are allowed to send as you. They live in the same zone, they are edited by different people at different times, and a change made for one of them can quietly break another.

We manage that record set as a single thing. New records are checked against what is already there, changes are made deliberately rather than in the middle of an incident, and the current state is written down so the next change starts from notes rather than guesswork.

Records also drift. Someone connects a new sending tool, a platform rotates a key, a contractor edits a record with good intentions. Ongoing monitoring is available if you would rather hear about that from us than from a customer.

Ask about DNS management

Records we set and maintain

  • A and CNAME records for websites, subdomains and staging environments
  • MX records for business email, including moves between providers
  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC for every domain and subdomain you send from
  • TXT verification records for the platforms that ask you to prove ownership
  • Nameserver changes when a site or a mailbox moves
  • Redirects and parked names that should not be left pointing at nothing

Transfers

How a domain transfer actually runs.

Six steps, in this order. Most of the risk in a transfer is not the transfer itself — it is everything the domain was quietly doing for you before it moved.

01

Confirm ownership and access

We establish who the registrant actually is, which account holds the domain, and whether anyone can still log in to it. A transfer nobody is able to authorize is the most common reason one stalls.

02

Record what the domain is doing

Before anything moves we write down the live DNS: website records, mail routing, authentication, and every third-party tool holding a verification record. That inventory is what the new setup gets rebuilt against.

03

Check renewal timing and locks

Registrar locks come off, the authorization code is requested, and the renewal date is confirmed so the move does not collide with an expiry or an auto-renewal you have already paid for.

04

Submit and approve

The transfer is placed and the approval message is watched for at the contact address on the domain. Domains sit in a pending state during this window. Your website and email keep running, because they follow DNS rather than the transfer.

05

Rebuild and verify DNS

Records are recreated and checked line by line against the inventory from step two. Existing mail and authentication records are recorded and validated before DNS changes are made.

06

Hand over in writing

You get what moved, what changed, where the domain now lives, and when it renews. If you replace us tomorrow, the next provider inherits notes instead of archaeology.

What we check before you commit

Transfer eligibility is set by the registry behind each extension, not by us. A recently registered or recently transferred domain sometimes cannot move yet, and some extensions have their own rules about who may hold them. We check that first and tell you what applies to your domain before anything is paid for.

  • Whether the extension allows a transfer right now
  • Whether the current account can produce an authorization code
  • What the domain currently serves — site, mail, tools
  • What the renewal costs after the move
  • Which records have to be rebuilt on the other side
  • Whether a transfer is even the right answer for you

Who This Is For

Most clients come to us when something important is broken, underperforming, or too technical to untangle alone. Here is where we are useful with domains, and where we are not.

A good fit if

  • You are registering a name for a new business, product or campaign and want it configured, not just bought.
  • Your domains are spread across old accounts, former staff and agencies nobody has spoken to in years.
  • A renewal is coming up and no one is certain who controls the account.
  • You are moving website hosting or email providers and the DNS has to be sequenced around live traffic.
  • You inherited a setup nobody documented and want the current state written down.
  • The website works but the mail does not, and both answers live in the same DNS zone.
  • You want one team accountable for the records without losing the ability to see them yourself.

What this is not

  • Privacy protection is not included by default. Where an extension supports it, it is a paid option and it is quoted per domain.
  • We do not take ownership of your domains. You remain the registrant while we provide the technical management you request.
  • Registry rules and pricing are not ours to bend. Renewal rates, restoration fees and transfer eligibility are set by the extension.
  • We do not sell you a name you do not need. If the domain you already own is fine, we will say so.
  • No guaranteed outcomes. We commit to diagnosis, method, and a written record of what changed.

Questions

Before making a domain change.

The questions we get asked most often, answered the way we would answer them on a call.

Can you transfer an existing domain?

Yes. We first confirm ownership, registrar locks, renewal timing, DNS and the services currently using the domain.

Can you configure DNS without moving the domain?

Usually. DNS support can be delivered without changing registrar when the current account provides the necessary access.

Will email keep working during a change?

That is the goal. Existing mail and authentication records are recorded and validated before DNS changes are made.

Who owns the domain?

You do. The domain is held in your name as registrant and we manage it on your behalf. If you decide to move on, you take it with you and we hand over the details you need to do it.

Is privacy protection included?

No. Where an extension supports privacy protection, it is a paid option quoted per domain. We will tell you what it costs and what it actually hides before you decide either way.

Which extensions can you register?

Tell us the name you want and we will check it. Some extensions have eligibility rules about who may hold them, and renewal pricing often differs from the first year, so we confirm both before you commit rather than after.

How long does a transfer take?

Transfers are not instant. The registry behind the extension sets the pace, and the approval step depends on the current registrar and on the contact address held against the domain. We tell you what the window looks like for your specific domain before starting. Your website and email keep running throughout, because they follow DNS rather than the transfer.

Can you find a domain nobody can account for?

Usually. We work from the public registration record and the expiry date back to the account and the contact address it sits behind. It is a common request after a staff change, a business sale, or an agency relationship ending badly.

What if the domain has already expired?

Tell us quickly. Expired domains move through a grace period and then a redemption period, where restoring them costs more and is not always possible. What can be done depends on the extension and on how long it has been. We will check and give you a straight answer.

Can you set up business email on the domain?

Yes. We supply and manage mailboxes on your own domain, with an honest recommendation between our managed email, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 based on features and cost. Setup, DNS authentication and ongoing support come from the same team.

Can our mail be kept on EU infrastructure?

For UK and EU businesses, business email can be hosted on EU-based infrastructure, so data residency is a decision you make at onboarding rather than a footnote you discover later. Ask at the consultation and we will confirm what is possible for your setup.

Will we be able to see the records ourselves?

Yes. You get a DNS management area of your own, plus a client area for invoices, services and support requests. We do most of the changes, but nothing is locked away from you.

What do you need from us to start?

The domain name, where it is currently registered if you know, and what it needs to support — website, mailboxes, sending tools. If you do not know where it is registered, that is one of the things we can find out. We reply with the right next step and a written quote within 24 hours.

What does a business actually gain from owning its domain?

A domain gives customers a memorable way to find the website and lets the business use branded addresses for its online services. It also creates an asset the business can keep when hosting or suppliers change.

What makes a strong domain name?

Start with the brand, keep the name short and easy to spell, avoid unnecessary numbers or hyphens, and choose an extension that matches the audience. Check similar brands and trademark risk before registration.

We registered the wrong name — what are our options?

The registered name itself cannot be edited. You can register a replacement, move the website and email carefully, and redirect the old domain so visitors and search engines reach the new address.

What term does a registration run for?

Most domains are registered in yearly terms, although minimum and maximum periods vary by extension. Renewal must be completed before expiry to keep control of the name.

What details do registries ask for?

Registries normally require valid registrant contact information and payment. Some country-code and regulated extensions also require proof of location, identity, organization type or eligibility.

TLD, ccTLD, gTLD — what do the acronyms mean?

A TLD is the ending after the final dot. A ccTLD represents a country or territory, such as .uk or .ng. A gTLD is a generic extension such as .com, .org or .shop.

How soon can a newly registered domain be used?

Many registrations complete within minutes once payment and any eligibility checks are approved. DNS changes can take additional time to become visible across internet providers and cached resolvers.

The name we want is taken — now what?

Try a suitable alternative extension, a concise variation of the brand, or a relevant country-code domain. Avoid confusing spellings that could send customers to another business.

Can a domain be sold or passed to a new owner?

Usually, provided the registry permits it and the domain is not under a transfer lock or dispute. Ownership changes should use a documented process and preserve the website and DNS records until completion.

Is a domain useful without a website?

A domain can support branded business email, customer portals, apps, redirects, campaign links, verification records and subdomains for separate services.

Why are the domain and the hosting separate purchases?

The domain is the address people use. Hosting is the infrastructure that stores and serves the website. DNS connects the address to the hosting and can route email somewhere else entirely.

Why are some names priced far above the standard rate?

A premium domain is priced above standard registration because it is short, memorable or commercially desirable. Its purchase price and renewal cost may both differ from ordinary domains, so both should be checked.

A host is offering the domain free — what’s the catch?

Some hosting offers include the first registration year, but renewal, transfer and eligibility terms still matter. Check who will be listed as registrant and what the domain will cost after the included period.
